During your visit, we’ll assess the shape, size, and symmetry of your ears. You’ll discuss any concerns, such as prominent ears, asymmetry, or deformities. We’ll also evaluate skin and cartilage elasticity to determine the best treatment options.
We’ll design a personalized treatment plan that may include ear pinning (setback otoplasty), reshaping the ear structure, or correcting deformities caused by injury or congenital issues.
Performed under general anesthesia, the surgery involves making discreet incisions behind the ear to reshape or reposition the cartilage. Sutures secure the new contour, ensuring a natural appearance.
You’ll receive guidance on wearing protective headbands, avoiding activities that could strain the ears, and maintaining incision hygiene. Follow-up visits ensure proper healing and desired results.
Precautions include avoiding smoking and managing allergies before surgery. Potential complications include bleeding, infection, overcorrection, or changes in sensation. Adhering to post-operative care minimizes risks.
The downtime for otoplasty is typically minimal, with most patients experiencing some swelling and mild discomfort for the first few days. A bandage is usually worn around the ears for the first week to help with healing. After this, patients can typically resume normal activities within 1-2 weeks, though strenuous activities and contact sports should be avoided for a few months. Full recovery, with the final aesthetic results, can be seen after about 6 weeks, with minimal scarring that’s often well-concealed behind the ears.
